In yesterday’s lecture we covered type crimes, from my notes these are what can be seen as type crimes:
- Orphans and Widows
- The incorrect use of hyphens instead of dashes rivers of space in justified text
- Stacked letters that are either stretched or have become squashed
- Foot sign instead of an apostrophe
- Inch marks instead of using quote marks
When you stretch letters it can ruin the overall size and weight of the lettering and distort the text, there is a few ways that this can be done, either by software by using it to fill the certain space or enlarging text, widows and orphans are when a stray word is left sitting along a row.
